Karen J Kennedy

Karen Kennedy's studies in Fine Art began with four professional artists in Springfield, Missouri. Drawing and painting in their studios and en Plein Aire led to advanced studies of the art elements and design principles. As her studies advanced, Karen became an art instructor. She found teaching to be an incredible way of increasing her own knowledge while sharing the excitement of creating artworks. Opportunities came later for visits to museums in Paris, New York, Washington DC, and Chicago as well as smaller Western art museums and the Denver Art Museum. Being able to view the original paintings that she had studied enhanced her love of art.

A native of Denver, Colorado, she continues classes and workshops in portraiture, life drawing, sculpture, composition, landscape, wildlife and abstract painting. Her favorite painting medium is oil, yet sometimes pastels or water media seem to fit her subject better. Expressive Realism is her usual style which often includes a painterly approach. At times Karen finds abstract a rewarding change of focus. "It is exciting to be an artist because there is always more to learn and explore", she says.

As a member of the Roxborough Arts Council, a board member, and past president for 3 years, Karen has written the Bylaws and guided the organization through the non-profit 501(c)3 certification, coordinated art shows, participated in the grant writing process, was active in establishing the Rox Arts Gallery, conducted fundraising, encouraged community outreach including art classes for youth and adults, and advocated for the arts through meetings with community leaders. She currently serves as gallery manager and juror for the ROX Arts Gallery in Aspen Grove, Littleton, CO.

Karen enjoys working with clients on commission artworks and has won multiple awards in juried exhibitions. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills in private art instruction. Her works of art hang in various private collections throughout the United States.
